Letter from the Presidents of the Board of Directors

Text Box: Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont
Annual Report—2006
Text Box: professionals. COASEV is committed to serving the needs of all the elderly in this region, but because funding is limited, services must be targeted to those in the greatest economic and social need. We believe that there are seniors and their families who are able and willing to pay for needed services.
This year, we were required to prepare a new Area Plan for 2007 – 2010, as a condition of receiving federal Older Americans Act and State funds. Much staff time was devoted to providing information and community education on the new Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage Text Box: This year was one of a major transition for the Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont (COASEV). Marie Saunders, Executive Director for the last nine years, retired at the end of 2005, and, after an exhaustive nationwide search, Joyce Lemire was hired as the new CEO. It was a very smooth transition, and Joyce has continued the excellent services to the seniors of Windham and Windsor counties.
Text Box: The Board of Directors participated in a daylong retreat in March, during which we identified our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and, most importantly, set some goals with action items for the coming year. While this organization is recognized and respected for its work in our communities, our message needs to reach a broader audience, e.g. adult children of seniors, the business community, attorneys, estate planners, as well as service Text Box: program. We continue to advocate for and promote successful aging, enabling older persons to remain active members of their communities. Our congregate and home-delivered meals program and active case management help vulnerable seniors remain in their homes longer.
COASEV has a very active and dedicated Board of Directors, an involved Advisory Council, and a highly professional, hard-working staff. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of them for helping make this past year another successful one.
